#3: Increasing Positive Affect

I was paired up with my college best friend, Teri, for this Increasing Positive Affect project and we had decided to go for the category of doing good. We went for something cute and crafty then called our project as "Words of Affirmation". We just basically exchanged a set of letters that contained words of affirmation to help each other go through hard times and difficulties like on days when we need motivation to not give up.

The whole project made me feel really really happy, encouraged, inspired, motivated and most especially, loved and cared for. It made me feel like I wasn't alone in this journey and I'm reminded that it's okay to feel not okay, as long as you don't lose yourself. It's safe to say that this activity had really increased positive affect within me.

To some people, this kind of activity might seem like it's not a big deal but the thing is, it's the small things that we always overlook upon. We don't realize that small things can make a person happy and content; that small things matter too just as much as big things do. We overlook the fact that some people are struggling with something and are in need of comfort or encouraging words from us as friends. This activity has made me realize that it would be much nicer if we remember to share positive words to others especially to our friends who might need them. Sometimes, a short positive message can be helpful enough to turn a frown of a friend upside down and lift their moods up, giving them strength and energy to go through the day or even the week.
